Perfectly poised along the Hudson River’s west bank, Nyack is a peaceful and quaint yet hip village where you can connect with its welcoming, eclectic community. Nyack is in Rockland County and encompasses a group of villages, including South Nyack, West Nyack, Central Nyack, and Upper Nyack. It is easy to reach from Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and is just an hour’s drive north of New York City. The village’s joyful, artistic feel can be traced back to former resident Edward Hopper, a renowned artist who called Nyack home for many years. A principal cellist for New York’s Metropolitan Opera Orchestra also lived here, as did author Carson McCullers. It is no wonder why Nyack is known as the “Art and Soul” on the Hudson.

 

Nyack is an up-and-coming waterfront community with a hip feel. The downtown area is the heart of the village and adds more of a cosmopolitan, artistic flavor. Nyack’s South Broadway Street hosts some of the finest shops, eateries, and entertainment. Archive Home is one such notable boutique, a one-stop shop for globally-sourced furnishings, new and previously loved clothing, and handcrafted jewelry. This boutique has been a treasure trove for all things unique for over a decade. After working up an appetite from shopping, grab a delicious breakfast or lunch at Strawberry Place. The familiar aromas of American comfort food, like overstuffed omelets, fluffy pancakes, and grilled sandwiches, will surely have your mouth watering and your stomach wanting more.

Right down the road is the Art Cafe, the perfect place for a midday latte. This Mediterranean-inspired coffee shop dishes out flavorful high-end roasts, teas, cocktails, and light vegetarian fare made with organic ingredients. Located between West and Central Nyack, the Palisades Center Mall is the best place to get some indoor shopping done. The impressive mall includes four stories packed with over 200 clothing and shoe stores,16 dine-in restaurants, an ice skating rink, and a bowling alley. The entertainment is virtually endless.

 

If you’re looking for an authentic local experience, a trip to the Nyack Farmers Market is a must. It’s located on Main Street and features a wide range of staple and rotating vendors selling unique handcrafted art, baked goods, artisan wines and spirits, and local produce. Nestled along the Hudson, Nyack Beach State Park is a 61-acre sportsperson paradise perfect for fishing and hiking in the spring and summer and skiing in the winter.

You can experience more of Hudson’s serene beauty aboard one of Nyack Boat Charter’s state-of-the-art sailing yachts or luxurious speedboats. The annual Phoenix Festival: Live Arts in Nyack is an electric outdoor celebration for local artists and entertainers. The festival runs from September to October against the breathtaking fall backdrop of the Hudson Valley. The fusion of Nyack’s beautiful culture and art is something worth experiencing.
