Things to Do

Nestled on the south end of the Kenisco Reservoir sits the Kenisco Dam Plaza. This historic dam acts as the Catskill water source, but many visitors each year get a bird's eye view of the towering construction and the surrounding natural beauty. Each month, a calendar of community events is hosted in the nearby park, from cultural celebrations and workout classes to concerts. Snackers can lay a picnic spread while watching skaters land rollerblading tricks. The Kenisco Dam also houses The Rising, the county's memorial to commemorate 9/11 and the first responders.

Westchester County is widely known for its Trailways. One of the local favorites is the South County Trailways. This 14-mile-long trail runs through some of the most densely populated areas of New York, stretching from the Bronx to East View. The rail trail is paved and has multiple uses, including biking, hiking, or taking a mid-afternoon under the shaded trees.

Greenburgh Nature Center is a sprawling 33-acre nature retreat and wildlife refuge fitted with hiking trails, organic gardens, and a pond teeming with local wildlife. Sights like the Manor House and nature-themed playground are sure to excite visitors of all ages. Flanked by Central Park Avenue on the west and the Bronx River Parkway on the east, the Greenburgh Nature Center is a perfect way to reconnect with nature in the middle of the concrete jungle.
